IPSO members, and indeed any surgeons who have a specialist practice in children's cancer surgery, should have booked their tickets by now to get to The 2015 Annual SIOP/IPSO Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, which starts with our Education Day on 7 October. It is not too late to register. The congress logo links directly to the congress website, but we recommend that you read more about the congress arrangements on the conferences page of this website first, since the congress website does not contain all of the information relevant to a surgical delegate.

The IPSO meeting kicks off on Wednesday 7 October with The Educational Day, which is a must for all surgeons who are attending the main congress. PLEASE NOTE: THE EDUCATION DAY WILL BE HELD AT THE RED CROSS WAR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, not far from the main congress site. The Education Day is free, but delegates are asked to register using the following link:

You can also use the above link to register for the Annual IPSO dinner, which will be held on the evening of Friday 9 October. More details about the dinner can be found on the conferences page of this website. It promises to be a great evening. All IPSO members who are in Cape Town should try to attend, and all guests will be very welcome. You don't have to be a surgeon to have an awesome time at the IPSO dinner. Payment will be in Cape Town, but if you don't register you may not get a place.

As usual the IPSO AGM will be held at the end of the first day of the IPSO Congress. The Executive committee hope to send out the agenda to all members in advance of the congress.

Please remember to bring your difficult cases for discussion at the problem case session on the first day of the IPSO Congress. Cases should be prepared as a 5 minute powerpoint presentation, structured to allow the experts in the audience to discuss the issues and provide you with useful advice. To be sure that your case will be discussed you need to notify the programme director in advance- details are on the conferences page of this website. Some time will be reserved for urgent cases which are brought to the meeting without advance warning.

Every 4 years IPSO joins the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA) to run a joint paediatric oncology symposium alongside the annual APSA Congress. The next joint symposium will be on 2016, in San Diego. The dates for the Congress, including the Oncology Symposium, are 14-16 May 2016. Please put these dates in your diary now. This is an excellent opportunity for your work to be seen – and discussed – by a larger and more geographically diverse group of peers and leaders in paediatric surgery. Abstracts are now being accepted for both the IPSO-APSA Symposium and the APSA Congress: Submit your abstract using this link.

There are a number of awards or scholarships available to support surgeons who submit abstracts to the Annual APSA Congress, including an award specifically to help overseas delegates from lower income countries. Information about APSA awards can be found here. Abstract submissions will be accepted through October 1, 2015, but don't wait too long to begin the process.

Would you like to join IPSO?

We are continuing to attract new members from new countries, and IPSO is without doubt the leading global organisation addressing children's cancer surgery. IPSO now has an on-line application process: if you would like to become an IPSO member just follow this link. Members who have not paid their annual subscription can use the payment link to continue to take advantage of the membership benefits

Have you paid your subscription?

The IPSO secretariat are always trying to ensure that their database is up-to-date, and in particular that they have active e-mail addresses for all members. All members should have had e-mail requests for payment of dues for 2015, and so if you are a member but have not heard anything please get in touch as soon as possible.

IPSO Surgical Oncology Courses

The IPSO surgical oncology course has been held at a number international venues around the world, and is gaining a great reputation. In 2013 IPSO paediatric surgical oncology courses were held at the annual EUPSA meeting in Leipzig, and during the WOFAPS meeting in Berlin. In 2014 there was a course at the EUPSA meeting in Dublin, and in 2015 in Ljubljana. Look out for the oncology course at the 2016 EUPSA congress in Milan. If you want further information, or if you are considering inviting the faculty to run a course in your country, contact information can be found on the courses link.
